Often we will relate to the reason of saving money when we decide to DIY. This reason may be obvious for majority but it is also one of the biggest reasons, many of us often underestimate just how much money we can save with DIY. Besides saving money on labour and markups with contractors and professional, many times cheap fixes on a number of household items prevent them from having to be replaced.
2. Workmanship/Handiwork
When we do a job ourselves, we can have the full control over how the work is done, what tools and materials are used and the overall quality, without needing being control or instructed by someone else. Repairmen and contractors aren’t too concerns about your stuff and don’t mind damaging things unnecessarily while they work.
3. Sense of achievement/accomplishment.
It always feels good to stand back and enjoy the “I did that”, “I made that” feeling. What’s more you can brag to your friends the next time they come around. Being able to complete some task or project all by yourself can be real satisfying. A sense of achievement refers to one reached a goal they were aiming for, and feels good about it.
4. New skills keeps our brain active!
As we grow older, life takes on many responsibilities, tasks, missions and it can be hard to find time for yourself in between work and family commitments. Sometimes, it can feel like you have lost your passions along the way. Getting your hands dirty in a good DIY project allows you to explore forgotten passions and develops ones in your life. Nowadays, research continues to show that learning new skills into your older years helps your brain stay healthy. Intellectual activities are important, and learning new DIY skills is a lovely way to keep an active and healthy mind. In particular, it is important to get out and do something that is unfamiliar and mentally challenging.
